Background
Power towers are important components of overhead transmission used to support transmission lines. When the base settles due to long-term influence of external conditions such as wind and rain, problems such as tilting and deformation are likely to occur. Therefore, it is an important measure to ensure the normal transmission of power and the safe and stable operation of power to do a good job in daily monitoring of the tilt of the tower.


Challenges with Traditional Power Tower Monitoring and Maintenance
How to monitor the “health status” of power towers in the past? Previously, tower measurement demanded strict requirements and had to be done manually using a theodolite on cloudy days or when the sun did not shine on the tower and the wind speed was less than level 2. The staff must first use a theodolite to measure the angles between multiple points on the tower and the ground before they can calculate the vertical deviation of the tower and obtain the tower inclination data.

It obtains the horizontal and vertical deviations of the tower body through RTK high-precision positioning data and gyroscope data. Integrates local micro-power wireless transmission to collect water immersion data and environmental data of the tower base and transmit them to the power intranet.

The tower monitoring platform is responsible for analyzing and issuing early warnings on the monitoring data. Realizing centimeter-level real-time monitoring of towers(power base communication base station tower, transmission tower and others), offset calculation, and offset trend analysis. When the monitoring data exceeds the tower tilt threshold, an early warning is issued to help operation and maintenance personnel to promptly understand the operating status of the tower. At the same time, the platform uses big data analysis technology to predict the tilt trend of the tower one month in advance based on historical data, helping staff to promptly understand the condition of the tower.
